HISTORY of SHIKIDO

This general merchandise store was built in 1993. It is a relatively new building, but the owner was committed to using traditional Japanese construction methods of building with wood, earth and paper, and commissioned a local builder to do so. Even though most buildings on Sakuramachi-dori have gable roofs, one of the features of this building is its heavy-looking half-hipped roof. With its quaint wooden fittings, it stands out in the street. The shop sells a wide range of ceramics and confectioneries.
